Screening For The One: How to Gain An Edge In Your Hiring is one of the most important books for success in staffing your company that you can have in your human resources toolkit. Written by an expert whose business has five decades’ worth of experience in conducting background checks, it gives you all the information you need for recruiting talent who will be an asset to your company.
Hiring employees goes beyond just looking at their qualifications and resumes, and asking those run-of-the-mill job interview questions about their strengths and weaknesses. In today’s highly competitive job market, it’s not unusual for job candidates to leave out information, exaggerate or to outright lie in their job applications. In our globalized world, where you might employ people from other countries, it’s become even more complicated to be able to tell that those you hire are who they say they are. Doing a thorough background check before signing that employment contract has become a must for every employer, big or small.
With Screening for the One: How to Gain an Edge in Your Hiring, you can learn what to look for to find the perfect candidate for the position, for your company and for your workplace culture. This book not only explains why you might need different background checks, but also gives you practical tips on how to conduct each within the framework of privacy laws and workers’ rights. It’s the workplace investigations book every human resources manager needs on their bookshelf.

About the Author
Marty Britton
Marty and her team at Britton Management Profiles (BMP) have helped thousands of companies know who they are hiring over the last fifty years. Marty left her civil engineering job in 1994 and took over BMP when her father, David G. Britton, became ill. At that time, it was an investigative and executive reference-checking business.
Over the decades, Marty and her team have continued to expand their pre-employment screening services, making sure their clients hire solid candidates.
She's an active member of the Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA), where she has served on a number of PBSA boards, including as chair of the Canadian board in 2020. She is also a proud member of the Women's President Organization, a peer-to-peer advisory committee board. BMP is a certified member of both WBE Canada and WEConnect International.
Marty lives in Toronto with her husband Ed. She's proud of her two adult children, even more so than the company she has steered for three decades. She is an avid walker and enjoys spending time outside, especially on a golf course. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends at the cottage-their happy place - in Prince Edward County.
